If English is your second language and you want to become more fluent, we’ll explore newspaper articles, broadcast transcripts, or other writings—your own writing too—in detail, so that you may improve your pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar.

VINCENT

I am a recent graduate of the University of California, Merced, currently the smallest college in the UC system. Being in such a small school allows a really strong sense of community, and as a result, I have gotten a lot of opportunities to help fellow students along with their homework and studying. What I've gathered is that learning why a student was doing poorly was just as important as learning what content they were having trouble with. What I have to offer isn't simply just holding their hands through their homework or drilling a student to death with additional problems to prep for a test, but a look at how they can improve at learning and taking tests overall.

Subjects I tutor include Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Music Theory, and Math up to Calculus.

SILAS

I am a Naperville Central High School graduate and current Cornell University student, majoring in Human Biology, Health, and Society. I absolutely love tutoring and providing help to others. Working with teens has always been a highlight of my career and an activity I’ve missed after moving on from my nine years of teaching English and literature. Something different I can bring to the tutoring table is the full range of professional, “real world” coaching skills I use to help adult experts, thought leaders and authors shape stories and other content for publication. Most days you’ll find me hiking, gardening, cooking, reading great literature, laughing with friends and interviewing folks to find out what makes them tick---but maybe not all at the same time.

Since I am a native German speaker from Munich, Germany and have had the opportunity to study my native language more in depth while in college – learning the intricacies of the linguistics and grammar structures behind it – I have a deep passion for this language and love helping others learn it as well. My love for language did not solely stem out of heritage though, but also due to my passion for history. SANDRA

Hallo, Guten Tag oder Grüß Gott! I was born and raised in the wonderful city of Munich, Germany. I am sure you have heard of the biggest festival held in Munich: The Oktoberfest. I moved to Los Angeles 4 years ago. I have worked in the city of Bonn, the Beethoven city, for the UN translating documents and helping out with bilingual conferences and have taught German to many people in TV and movies. I was very privileged to also have trained employees of the Swiss UBS bank or private clients who have had the desire to speak and improve their German. My knowledge of the entertainment business is very big and I am always excited to share my language and knowledge with others. I am a big soccer fan, especially after Germany took home the World Cup 2014 in Brazil, and I have also lived a year in Mallorca, Spain. Most Americans that I have met told me how excited they are about the German language and the German culture, therefore I made it a mission to pass on my passion for teaching and get you started on anything German that you need to know. I am very eager to help you learn the German language no matter for what reason you decide to take on your new 'adventure'.

SUSANNE

I am a German native who has lived in the US for many years, the last ten years in Brooklyn, New York. I have an undergraduate degree in Art History and a Master’s in Visual Culture Theory from New York University. I have been teaching and tutoring for over a decade. Having moved from Germany to the US with only rudimentary knowledge of English gives me a unique perspective in teaching students German or English to Speakers of Other Languages. In my lessons, I use a lot of visual materials and role-play related to real life situations. It most important to me that students not only approach native-like fluency but also have fun while learning all aspects of a new language.

Subjects I tutor include: conversation, reading comprehension, writing, grammar and cultural difference.
